Anchored Amidst the Shifting Tides

Proverbs 3:5

Trusting God when the horizon is blurred feels like walking into a thick fog; we crave the clarity of a mountain view, yet we are only given enough light for the very next step. In our humanity, we often try to map out every possible turn to protect our hearts from disappointment. However, attempting to control the unmanageable only feeds our anxiety and draws our focus away from the grace that sustains us in the present moment.

'Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.' This instruction from Proverbs is a gentle invitation to stop wrestling with the 'what ifs' that keep us awake at night. Leaning on our own understanding is like building a foundation on shifting sand, as our perspective is always limited by the horizon of our current experience. When we choose to surrender our need for a detailed blueprint, we find that God’s perspective is far more expansive and reliable than our own frantic calculations.

Today, I encourage you to unclench your fists and breathe. You do not need to solve the future to be faithful in the now. God is not a God of chaos, and He has not abandoned the narrative of your life in the middle of a chapter. As you go about your day, offer Him your uncertainty as an act of worship, trusting that the hand which guided your past is more than capable of leading you safely into the days you have yet to see.
