Faith in the Small Things

Mark 9:24

Help My Unbelief

The father comes to Jesus with a sick child and a mixed heart. He believes — something in him has brought him here. But he is also honest: his belief is incomplete. And Jesus does not send him away for the honesty.

This is a more accurate picture of faith than we often allow. Not the unwavering certainty we are supposed to perform. But the partial belief that shows up anyway and asks for help with what is lacking.

Bringing What You Have

If your faith feels small today — if the certainties are not certain, if the doubts are louder than the beliefs — you are in good company. The man who prayed this prayer had Jesus's full attention.

Bring what you have. The small, partial, honest faith. It is enough to begin.
