The Gift of Being Interrupted
Luke 8:43-48
Who Touched Me?
Jesus felt power go out from him and stopped to ask who had touched him. The disciples were baffled — the crowd was pressing in. But Jesus was not interested in the crowd's logic. He was interested in the particular person.
The woman who touched him was desperate. Twelve years of illness. The last of her resources spent. And in a moment, quietly, she was healed. And then seen.
When Plans Are Interrupted
Our interruptions are not usually healing miracles. They are the phone call that comes when we are busy, the child who needs us when we have something else to do, the person who appears at the wrong moment.
But Jesus modelled something in this story: the person in front of you is not an obstacle to the important thing. Often, they are the important thing. Today, when an interruption comes, consider pausing before you resist it.
