When You Cannot Stop Worrying

Philippians 4:6-7

Do Not Be Anxious About Anything

Paul's instruction is clear and, honestly, initially frustrating: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

The antidote to anxiety, in this passage, is not willpower or positive thinking. It is prayer — specific, honest, grateful prayer.

The Peace That Passes Understanding

What follows is remarkable: the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds. The peace doesn't come from having the situation resolved. It comes from having brought it to God.

If you are worrying today, try this: name the specific worry. Bring it to God in honest prayer. Add one thing you are genuinely thankful for. Then notice what shifts — or what begins, slowly, to shift.
