After the Hard Conversation

Matthew 5:9

Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Jesus calls peacemakers blessed — but he does not call them those who avoid conflict. Peacemaking and peacekeeping are different things. Peacekeeping suppresses. Peacemaking works toward something real.

The hard conversation that needs to happen — spoken with care and honesty and love — is often an act of peace, not its disruption.

The Cost and the Value

Honest conversations are costly. They require vulnerability and the willingness to hear something uncomfortable. But the alternative — relationships built on what is not said — is more costly in the long run.

If there is a conversation you have been avoiding, consider what the cost of the avoidance is. And if the conversation has already happened and has left you unsettled — give yourself time. What was said needs to find its place. Be patient with the process.
