The Body You Are In

Psalm 139:14

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Psalm 139 is one of the most intimate psalms — a meditation on God's exhaustive knowledge of each person. You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

This is not flattery. It is a statement about origin and care — that the making was intentional, that the maker was attentive, that the result is not a mistake.

Receiving Your Body

For many of us, receiving the body we are in is a long, slow work. The culture's messages about bodies are loud and contradictory and often cruel. But the practice of returning, again and again, to what God says — that this was made, with care — begins to create a different kind of quiet.

Today, notice one thing about your body that functions. Not what it looks like. What it does. The breath it takes. The way it carries you through the day. Receive that as something given.
