The Particular Grace of Ordinary Days
Psalm 118:24
Made and Given
Psalm 118:24 is often quoted as a declaration of happiness. But read in context, it is more than that — it is an act of recognition. The psalmist is naming something: that this day, this particular arrangement of hours, has been made by God and given as a gift.
Not every day feels like a gift. Some days feel like obligations to get through. But the invitation remains: to receive the day rather than merely endure it.
Finding What Is There
Ordinary days contain more than we notice when we are moving too fast. A conversation that was more honest than expected. A moment of quiet that arrived uninvited. The way light came through the window at a particular angle.
Today, slow down enough to notice what is actually here. Not the day you wished for — the day that was made. It has something in it. Receive it.
