When Prayer Feels Like Silence

Psalm 62:1

Soul, Wait

The psalmist writes: For God alone my soul waits in silence. There is something striking in this — not the performance of confident prayer, but a soul sitting quietly before God, waiting.

Psalm 62 is not a psalm of triumphant certainty. It is a psalm written under pressure, with enemies close. And yet the posture is waiting, not striving. Silence before God, not noise.

What Silence Is Not

When prayer feels empty, it is easy to conclude that we are doing it wrong, or that God is distant, or that faith isn't working. But silence in prayer is not absence. It is often the place where something slow and deep is being formed.

The invitation today is not to feel the feelings you think you should have in prayer. It is simply to show up. Wait. Stay a moment longer than feels comfortable. Not because silence is the goal, but because the God who is your salvation is present in it.
