What Fear Takes From Us

Isaiah 41:10

The Command Not to Fear

Scripture tells us not to fear more often than almost any other instruction. Which suggests God knows something about how persistently fear operates in us — and how much it costs.

Isaiah 41 is God speaking to a people in exile. Real fear, justified fear. Their world had ended. And God says: Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Not: your situation is fine. But: I am here in it.

Taking Back the Present

Fear often pulls us out of the present into an imagined future catastrophe. It narrows our vision until all we can see is what might go wrong. God's answer is not to remove the future but to be present now.

When fear rises today, name it plainly: I am afraid of this specific thing. Then bring that specific thing to God. Not the performance of calm, but the honest fear, offered to someone large enough to hold it. That is not denial. That is prayer.
