The Presence That Goes With Us

Moses said to God: If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. (Exodus 33:15) He was not willing to go anywhere, even to the Promised Land, without the assurance of God's presence.

That is a remarkable thing to say. The destination didn't matter as much as the companionship. The blessing was not the land — it was the nearness of God.

I want that to be my orientation. Not: God, bless what I am doing. But: God, go with me into whatever is ahead, and I will follow wherever that leads. The destination is secondary to the presence.
