The Hardest Prayer

Luke 22:42

The Hardest Prayer

Not my will, but yours, be done. (Luke 22:42)

Jesus prayed this in Gethsemane, sweating drops of blood, asking if the cup could pass from Him. He was not pretending the hard thing was easy. He was surrendering the genuine desire of His human heart to the will of His Father.

This is the hardest prayer. Not because it requires eloquence, but because it requires release. It means I hold my own preferences, timelines, and plans loosely enough to let them go if God asks.

I am learning this prayer. I am not always good at it. But I keep returning to it — because the One I am surrendering to is the most trustworthy Being in the universe.
