A Quiet Life
1 Thessalonians 4:11
A Quiet Life
Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands. (1 Thessalonians 4:11)
This verse feels almost counterintuitive in an age that rewards visibility and celebrates hustle. To aspire to quietness — to make it a goal — is strange counsel.
But I have been drawn to it this week. There is a quality of life available in quietness that loudness cannot offer: depth of attention, presence in the moment, the ability to hear what God is actually saying. The quiet life is not a smaller life. It is often a fuller one.
I want to cultivate quietness — not as retreat from the world, but as the posture from which I engage it most faithfully.
