Gratitude as a Practice
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude as a Practice
I have been keeping a gratitude list this week. Not a grand gesture — just a small notebook where, each evening, I write three things I am grateful for. Simple things. The warmth of a good cup of tea. A text from a friend who was thinking of me. A moment where the light through the window was extraordinary.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says to give thanks in all circumstances. Not for all circumstances — Paul is not asking us to be grateful that hard things happen — but in them. In the middle of the difficulty, gratitude finds the good that is still present.
Gratitude is a practice. It doesn't come naturally in hard seasons. But it can be chosen, and choosing it changes the landscape of the heart.
