Praying Without Ceasing
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Praying Without Ceasing
Paul's command in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 — pray without ceasing — used to feel impossible to me. I can't be on my knees all day. Life doesn't work that way.
But I've come to understand it differently: it is an orientation of the heart, a continuous attentiveness to God's presence. Brother Lawrence called it practicing the presence of God — turning the mind back to God in the middle of washing dishes, driving, working, waiting.
Today I am practicing this. Every time my mind wanders to worry, I am redirecting it toward Him. Not as a formula, but as a conversation. A running dialogue with the One who is always present, always listening.
