Fear and Faith

Matthew 14:30-31

Fear and Faith

I used to think that fear was the enemy of faith. That if I was truly trusting God, I wouldn't feel afraid. But I've come to believe something different: fear and faith can coexist. What matters is which one I act from.

The disciples were afraid in the boat in the storm. They cried out to Jesus — that cry was faith. Peter was afraid when he walked on water, and he started to sink — but he also cried out Lord, save me. Jesus caught him.

Faith is not the absence of fear. Faith is fear that decides to move toward Jesus anyway. Today I choose to move toward Him, even shaking.
