Bearing One Another's Burdens

A friend called me this week carrying something heavy. I didn't have answers — I had very little to offer beyond presence and a willingness to stay on the phone long past when it was convenient.

Galatians 6:2 says to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. The law of Christ — summed up in love. And love, it turns out, is often inconvenient. It shows up when it's not easy. It stays.

I don't always do this well. I can be quick to offer solutions when someone needs me to simply witness their pain. Today I want to be a better burden-bearer. Less fixing, more presence.
