Rooted and Grounded
Ephesians 3:17-18
Rooted and Grounded
Paul prays in Ephesians 3 that we would be rooted and grounded in love — that we would be able to comprehend with all the saints the breadth, length, height, and depth of Christ's love, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.
What a paradox: to know something that surpasses knowledge. I think Paul is saying that head-knowledge alone isn't enough. This love must be experienced, not just understood. It must get into the soil of who we are and take root.
A rooted tree doesn't panic in a storm. The roots hold. I want that kind of stability — not the brittleness of circumstances, but the deep-rootedness of love that will not let me go.
