Sabbath as Resistance
Exodus 20:8-10
Sabbath as Resistance
I took a real sabbath today. No work, no checking of messages, no running through mental to-do lists. Just rest, worship, slow meals, and laughter with people I love.
It felt almost subversive. Because the world is always on. There is always more to do, more to optimize, more to produce. To stop — to genuinely stop — is to declare that you are not the engine that keeps the world running. God is.
The fourth commandment is not a suggestion. It is an act of trust built into the rhythm of creation. When I rest, I am saying: You've got this, God. I don't need to hold it together for one day. That is a profound and liberating act of faith.
