Poem

Sparrows

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.

Not one.

I think about that when the world feels too large and I feel too small to register in it.

Five sparrows, two pennies. A transaction so minor it barely qualifies as commerce. And God knows every one.

How much more — those words carrying the whole weight of the argument — how much more are you worth to Him?

You, with your particular fears and specific joys and unrepeatable history.

You, in this exact moment of your one life.

Not one sparrow is forgotten. And you are not a sparrow. You are the one He called by name.
