Poem

Rivers

A river does not question where the water comes from.

It only moves in the direction of the watershed, collecting what falls and releasing it forward.

I want to be like that — not storing what was given but conducting it:

the love I have received, passed on; the grace that found me, returned to the world in the shape of kindness; the truth that steadied me, spoken into someone else's staggering.

A river does not take credit for the rain.

It only moves where it is sent and gives what it has and trusts the ocean to be there at the end of the long flowing.
