On Being Interrupted
When God reroutes the plan
I had a plan for this year. It was a good plan — carefully considered, prayed over, sensible. And God has spent most of it dismantling it gently and replacing it with something I would not have chosen.
I have been thinking about the way Jesus moved through the Gospels. He was constantly interrupted. He was on His way to one place and a need arose and He stopped. Jairus's daughter, the woman with the issue of blood, the blind man calling from the roadside — interruptions, all of them, that became the main event.
Jesus did not experience these as frustrations. He experienced them as the work. The detour was not a delay from the ministry — it was the ministry.
I am trying to learn this. To hold my plans with open hands. To recognize that the unexpected need, the derailed schedule, the thing I did not see coming — these may not be obstacles to what God is doing. They may be what God is doing.
There is a kind of peace available when you stop needing your plans to survive. When you trust that God's redirects are not errors but invitations. The interrupted life, held in faith, becomes the intentional life.
