Letter
A letter to the woman who is tired
On the difference between weariness and defeat.
Dear friend,
You are tired. I will not argue with you about it. I will not tell you that you are stronger than you feel, or that you should rest more, or that tomorrow will be better.
I will only say this: tiredness is not the same as defeat.
Scripture is full of tired people. Elijah under the juniper tree, asking to die. Moses, pleading for help carrying a people. Paul, hard-pressed on every side. None of them were disqualified by their weariness. They were met in it.
The God who made you does not require you to be endlessly fresh. He requires you to be His. Rest where you can. Accept help where it is offered. Do the next ordinary thing in front of you. And trust that the tiredness of a faithful life is, itself, a form of worship.
The fields you are watering may be slower to show than you would like. They are not failing. Neither are you.
With love, A sister.
