Anchored in the Unknown
Proverbs 3:5-6
When the future feels like shifting sand, we find our stability by placing our trust in the unchanging character of God.

- Proverbs 3:6
The Burden of Knowing. We often believe that if we can just figure out the 'how' or the 'when' of our lives, we would finally feel at peace. Whether it is a health concern, a career shift, or a relationship struggle, the uncertainty gnawing at our hearts makes us feel like we must work overtime to control the outcome. But attempting to lean on our own limited understanding is like trying to build a foundation on shifting silt; it inevitably leads to exhaustion and anxiety. ## Trust as an Act of Surrender. Proverbs 3:5 tells us, 'Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.' To trust God in uncertainty is to admit that our view is narrow, while His is infinite. It is an active surrender, a moment-by-moment decision to stop trying to connect the dots ourselves and instead lean into the One who created the entire picture. When we stop demanding clarity, we gain something far better: companionship with the Creator in the middle of the fog. ## The Promise of His Guidance. The beauty of this passage is the promise attached to our trust: 'In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.' This doesn't mean the path becomes easy or that the mystery vanishes immediately. Instead, it means that even when the road is winding, God is the one placing our feet. We find rest not because we know where we are going, but because we know who is leading us.
For reflection
- What is one area of your life right now where you are trying to 'connect the dots' instead of trusting God?
- How does your body feel when you realize you are leaning on your own understanding rather than His?
- What is one practical way you can 'acknowledge' God in your daily routine this week while you wait for clarity?
- If God made your path straight today, would it look like the resolution you want, or something else entirely?
